F1 2025 Miami Grand Prix weather forecast - Latest as thundershowers hit South Florida

The sixth round of the 2025 Formula 1 world championship takes place this weekend, with the Miami Grand Prix taking centre stage.

Lando Norris will return to the track as the defending race winner for the first time in his career, having taken a stunning victory at the 2024 Miami GP, his first career win that propelled him into a championship challenger.

However, this season Norris is on a four-race win drought, and has fallen 10 points behind team-mate and championship rival Oscar Piastri, with the Brit desperate to repeat his 2024 success in Miami and get back on track.

Miami has hosted F1 since 2022, and this year's event will be the fourth instalment of the race, with Max Verstappen having taken two wins and Norris the other in that time.

The Miami International Autodrome paddock often adopts a party atmosphere, with huge-name celebrities, a sleek artificial boat marina, and, usually, warm Florida spring conditions.

Ahead of the sixth championship event, dreary weather is forecast for the week preceding the race, with thunderstorms hitting South Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday. These thunderstorms are not set to impact the sprint race weekend directly, but the conditions appear shaky as things stand with a threat of rain for Sunday's race.

Here is the crucial weather forecast ahead of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix!

Miami Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday, May 2 - FP1 & sprint qualifying

The sprint weekend gets underway on Friday with the one and only practice session kicking off at 12:30pm local time.

Because of the nature of the limited practice time available during sprint weekends, teams will be glad that there is currently zero per cent chance of rain during FP1.

FP1 will see temperatures of around 28 degrees Celsius, but it's likely to feel more like 32 degrees Celsius, making for a difficult hour of running for drivers. On top of this, wind gusts of up to 37km/h may hamper the drivers as they attempt to find their braking points around the circuit.

The first competitive session of the weekend gets underway later on Friday, with sprint qualifying taking place at 4:30pm local time. Temperatures will likely stay around 28 degrees Celsius for this session, although towards the end of sprint qualifying they could drop slightly with lows of 23 forecast for the day.

There is a small chance of a rain shower but zero per cent chance of thunderstorms and plenty of cloud cover around.

Saturday, May 3 - Sprint race and grand prix qualifying

The first of two races takes place on Saturday, with the sprint taking place at 12pm local time. The circuit will once again be covered in cloud with high humidity levels set to be paired with temperatures varying between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.

The heavy cloud cover will result in a higher chance of rain than on Friday which is currently sat at around 15 per cent for the sprint race.

That chance of rain then increases slightly for main race qualifying later on Saturday, with 19 per cent chance forecast for when Q1 gets underway at 4pm local time, as temperatures are expected to remain at 29 degrees.

Sunday, May 4 - Race

Race day at the Miami International Autodrome gets underway at 4pm local time, with thundery showers expected throughout the course of the race.

Temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius are forecast for the 57-lap race, with humidity levels of 64 per cent likely to make it a hot and sticky race for drivers thanks to the thunderous conditions.

There are chances of a rain shower throughout the entire grand prix, with F1 reporting a 20 per cent chance of rain during the hour and a half race whilst local reports state there is a 67 per cent chance of precipitation forecast across the day.
