Gasly - Formula 1 future "not up to me" amid Renault links

AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly has been unable to quash speculation surrounding his Red Bull future and a prospective move to the soon-to-be Alpine F1 team, conceding his future is "not up to me."

Gasly, who was demoted from a Red Bull drive midway through 2019, has been in superlative form this season - including a victory at Monza - leading to many calling for his return to the parent team.

But with Red Bull's hierarchy seemingly content with keeping Alex Albon in the car, despite a number of disappointing performances akin to Gasly's own last season, rumours have arisen over the possibility of the Frenchman moving to the rebranded Renault outfit.

While insisting he is happy with his current team, Gasly has also explained how any potential discussion about his future is out of his control.

"I am very happy with AlphaTauri," he said. "This season is going really well. Scoring over 60 points in 11 races is I think, the best the team has ever achieved. They are doing a fantastic job every weekend and I am really pleased with that.

"Obviously, there is one more year with Honda and it is looking pretty good for next year in terms of improvement and evolution on their side so we will see how it goes.

"There were a couple of rumours but it is not up to me to make these kinds of decisions. Red Bull decides what happens with the drivers and they are the ones to ask."

When pressed further, Gasly explained it was Helmut Marko and Dietrich Mateschitz who hold the key to all of the marque's drivers, leaving Gasly with no chance to decide his own fate.

"Obviously, Helmut is the one managing the drivers internally, managing the Red Bull drivers," added Gasly. "There is him, there is Mr Mateschitz, they are the main ones making the calls

"It basically means there are options outside of the programme but as I said, from my side, personally, I am not involved in all the discussions so I can't really comment on all the things that have been said."
