Ricciardo set for Brazil GP grid drop

Daniel Ricciardo will serve a grid penalty at the Brazilian Grand Prix after it was confirmed that his Red Bull will be fitted with a new turbocharger at Interlagos. Ricciardo suffered his eighth DNF of 2018 last time out in Mexico after suffering late-race hydraulic failure.

Ricciardo is set to take a five-place penalty after taking on his sixth turbocharger of 2018 – drivers have been permitted just three across the entire campaign.

The Australian has been beset by reliability issues this year – his last with Red Bull before departing for Renault's works team.

Red Bull sent Ricciardo out for the start of FP1 10 minutes early at Interlagos in an attempt to lessen the damage.

If other drivers take penalties across the race weekend in Brazil, Ricciardo's will be applied first, potentially preventing him from falling too far down the grid.

However, no other drivers are expected to bring penalties into the weekend.
