Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has issued his verdict on the recent beef between two of his fellow drivers.
During the Chicago Street Race earlier this month, Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman fought very hard out on track, making contact with each other's cars multiple times, before the No. 23 was spun around.
Busch himself had an excellent view of the battle, too, given that he was just behind the pair in the chasing pack as they tussled.
And, speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio a few days after the race, Busch shared his interpretation on what had unfolded between the No. 23 and the No. 48.
"I don't know if it was in Bubba's mind, it had to have been a little bit, that him and Bowman were going against each other for the bracket [In-Season] challenge for the weekend," Busch explained.
"And so he was trying to hold back the 48 as much as he could, even though the 48 was on fresher tires, and just block him and knock them out of the way.
"They were being rough with one another, literally for that."
Busch continued, explaining that post-race, there appeared to be no hard feelings between Wallace and Bowman, with the No. 23 taking the blame for their on-track coming togethers.
However, the driver of the No. 8 did finish by suggesting that the pair do not like one another, citing the fact that they have come together at other tracks too.
"It looked afterwards, it was no hard feelings because Bubba basically said like, 'Hey, I was running you rough. I was running you hard. I was trying to block you. I was hanging on for dear life'.
"So there wasn't as much drama afterwards as much as people would have thought because I think Bubba just sort of conceded to the fact he was doing all that he could to try to prohibit the 48 from passing him.
"So not as much drama afterwards as many of us thought was going to happen there.
"I don't think those two really like each other all that well. There's been a few times over the years they've run over one another."
23XI star Bubba Wallace finished 27th in Chicago
Just as Busch explained, the pair did seem to squash their beef ahead of this past weekend's race at Sonoma, with Wallace accepting responsibility for what happened in Chicago.
Wallace even bought his Hendrick Motorsports rival dinner ahead of the action in California.
“We get to the hotel for dinner two nights ago now, and he’s waiting to get seated right in front of us,” Wallace told NASCAR.com.
“I just come up, give a big bear hug and told him again, ‘Hey, we’re good. Nothing’s wrong.’ And so the hotel we’re at, a lot of industry people are there.
"My dinner was bought by somebody else, so I paid for Bowman’s dinner. It just kind of felt right.”
