NASCAR have announced a late penalty after the weekend's racing at Pocono, for a technical infringement.

Hendrick Motorsports' No. 17 car, driven in the Xfinity Series last weekend by Chase Elliott for the second time this year, was flagged after inspection for violating sections 14.3.3.2.1.1 K&L of the NASCAR rule book, which regard main frame rail conical receivers.

The team was docked 40 owner points and 10 NASCAR Playoff owner points – ultimately not a disaster, given that they aren't competing for the title in the Xfinity Series.

However, what will sting more is the accompanying $40,000 fine and three-race ban for crew chief Adam Wall, leaving Corey Day to drive with a replacement crew chief.

That penalty to the No. 17 car was the only one to come out of the post-Pocono penalty report, with no lasting penalties assessed on the Cup Series teams after inspection.

NASCAR's statement on the penalty read: "NASCAR assessed an L1 level penalty to the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Xfinity Series team following last weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.

"During inspection this week at the R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina, officials found that the team was in violation of Sections 14.3.3.2.1.1 K&L (Main Frame Rail Conical Receivers) of the NASCAR Rule Book.

"As a result, the team was fined $40,000 and assessed with the loss of 40 owner points and 10 NASCAR Playoff owner points. Additionally, crew chief Adam Wall was suspended from the next three Xfinity Series events through the July 12 race at Sonoma Raceway."

The team will not appeal the penalty.
