NASCAR announce Mexico City penalty report as team punishment confirmed

NASCAR has released its official post-Mexico City penalty report, with one team's punishment confirmed.

Joe Gibbs Racing have been hit with a penalty under Sections 8.8.10.4a: Tires and Wheels of the NASCAR rule book for 'lug nut(s) not properly installed'.

This was an expected penalty after NASCAR confirmed over the weekend that the No. 54 of Taylor Gray had been found to have one loose lug nut during Xfinity Series post-race inspection at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Now, though, the team's punishment has been revealed, with NASCAR choosing to fine Joe Gibbs Racing $5000.

Meanwhile, there were no other post-race penalties to report from Mexico, although officials were kept busy during both the Cup and Xfinity Series races.

Joe Gibbs Racing punished again

Unfortunately for Joe Gibbs Racing, this is not the first time that they have been hit with a penalty for having loose lug nuts on their cars this season.

Back in March, for example, two of the team's Xfinity Series cars were fined $5000 each for lug nut infractions at Phoenix Raceway.

Later that month, four Xfinity Series teams were hit with penalties following post-race inspection at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the same infringement. On that occasion, once again, each team in question was hit with a $5000 fine.

The most recent punishment for loose lug nuts, aside from this week's penalty, came earlier this month, post-Nashville, when JR Motorsports were fined $10,000 and their crew chief suspended for one race after Connor Zilisch's car was found to have two unsecured lug nuts.

Joe Gibbs Racing will certainly be looking to avoid this mishap again as NASCAR hits Pocono this weekend.
