Horner urges FIA clarity over Herta hold-up

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has urged the FIA to provide "clarity" on Colton Herta's super licence situation ahead of a potential move to AlphaTauri.

The IndyCar star looks set to free up Pierre Gasly's move to Alpine with a code switch having impressed during a test day with McLaren at Portimão in July.

But the American - who would become the first US driver to race in F1 since Alexander Rossi seven years ago - has failed to amass the required super licence points in IndyCar, with the system coming under fire for the lack of balance compared to junior categories in Europe.

Red Bull is seeking an exemption to allow Herta to drive in F1 given his performances stateside, with motorsports advisor Dr Helmut Marko revealing an agreement between all parties has been reached at Zandvoort.

Addressing the super licence situation, Horner said: "That's an FIA issue.

"We just need clarity of what is the situation regarding driver points which hopefully, will come sooner than later because that plays a key role in the driver merry-go-round."

Herta causing Red Bull delay

Gasly is widely expected to leave AlphaTauri for Alpine to replace Fernando Alonso and put an end to the French manufacturer's driver saga.

On whether the Herta issues will hold up any moves in the Red Bull driver camp, Horner replied: "In terms of clarification on points for a driver looking to come into Formula 1, you have got to know that you have got options.

"If that option isn't there, the other triggers are not going to come into play."
