Alex Albon trialling Williams aero upgrades at Silverstone
Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson has revealed the team will bring updates to the British Grand Prix on Alex Albon's car only.
Albon has secured two points finishes so far this season despite the Grove-based team's struggles at the back of the grid.
The FW44 has given both Albon and team-mate Nicholas Latifi a hard time with corner stability, the Canadian particularly struggling with numerous incidents so far this season.
But an update package is to be added to Albon's car at Silverstone to give the team a chance of comparing new and old together.
"We have an updated aero package for this weekend, which will run on Alex’s car only as we look to check its behaviour and confirm that it is working as intended," explained Robson.
"The bodywork and floor form the basis of the upgrade and are intended to efficiently increase the downforce of the car."
Austria Sprint prompts intense learning course
As with any car upgrade, Williams will need the learnings of multiple weekends in order to unlock the optimum performance from the changes.
But the reduced practice schedule for the Sprint weekend in Austria after Silverstone places an emphasis on a strong weekend of learning in Great Britain.
"We are looking forward to our home race and to understanding the new parts; they are likely to change the balance and the handling of the car and it may take a little bit of time to harness them so that the drivers can get the most from them," said Robson.
"With next week’s race in Austria being a Sprint event, we will be looking to get as much learning done this weekend as possible."
