F1 explains why Belgian GP Monday switch "not possible"
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has claimed there were "a lot of reasons" the Belgian Grand Prix could not be moved to Monday following Sunday's washout.
In torrential rain at Spa Francorchamps, half points were eventually awarded after a 'race' that amounted to nothing more than two laps behind the safety car.
Despite a hectic schedule with F1 starting a triple-header, heading to Zandvoort this weekend and Monza the following weekend, questions were raised as to whether it was possible for the Belgian event to be held over until Monday.
Asked if such a suggestion was possible, Domenicali answered, "No.
"For a lot of reasons you cannot schedule the race for the day after for many things related to the availability of marshals and related to a lot of other stuff.
“That was considered but it is not possible.
“With the promoters, everything is very close. They followed the decision process so they are not out of that.”
At previous races, notably the 2019 Japanese GP, F1 has altered its schedule to cope with the demands of the weather.
With rain forecast in the week leading up to the Belgian event, Domenicali claimed there was no indication of the severity of the incoming weather.
“As far as the information we had, it was considered to be normal rain," he explained. "Normal is of course [subjective].
“There was no sign that the rain would be so bad otherwise that decision could have been taken by the stewards.”
