French GP promoters apologise to fans for late F1 date change
French Grand Prix promoters have apologised to fans after agreeing at short notice to allow its race to take place a week earlier than scheduled.
In an F1 calendar reshuffle, the Turkish GP that was due to take place on June 11-13 has been cancelled after the country was placed on the UK government's red list.
The race at the Paul Ricard circuit has now switched to June 18-20 from its original June 25-27 slot followed by two races in Austria, which will likely affect many fans who had already purchased tickets. The venue has set a capacity of 15,000 per day.
French GP managing director, and former McLaren team principal, Eric Boullier said: "This change of date has not weakened our passion and our raison d'être: to offer our public the best event possible.
"We understand this modification has an impact on the attendance of our spectators and partners and we apologise about this. Our teams are already actively working to ensure that the rest of our event programme remains unchanged."
For those who had purchased tickets, bookings remain valid for the new date. For fans now unable to attend and wishing to cancel, refund details will be announced via email and on the gpfrance.com website.
