Wolff to "mix it up" as he contemplates Mercedes future
The team boss is still mulling over his options
Toto Wolff is set to dilute his role as Mercedes team principal after confirming he is looking to "mix it up a little" with regard to his future in Formula 1.
Wolff, a shareholder and co-owner of the team, has overseen a period of unparalleled dominance in F1, with Mercedes winning every championship since 2014.
Whilst the Austrian's future has yet to be decided as talks remain ongoing, he has stated his desire to remain with the team, but at the same time without halting the progress of younger talent rising through the ranks.
"Yeah, I think I am going to mix it up a little bit," he told Sky Sports F1 when asked about his future.
"What I always said is that you need to realise where the point comes from becoming very good to good because you cannot contribute to an organisation's performance any more.
"I don't think this moment has happened yet, but in our team, we look ahead and we look at senior leaders and the potential of young ones coming up.
"We don't want to create a bottleneck for talent to prosper and this is why, far in advance, we already look at every position.
"It doesn't mean I am quitting as a team principal but I am looking ahead to look and see what my involvement is down the road.
"I am a shareholder and co-owner of the team so I wouldn't say that that is it, I am out of there, on the contrary, I am just contemplating."
Wolff has suggested part of his future discussions relate to how convenient any job would be for his family.
At present, Wolff has revealed that talks between himself and Daimler were "very productive, if not straightforward".
He added: "The situation is a bit complicated because we are not talking about an employment contract that I have.
"[It is] more to carve out with Daimler what the future of shareholding can look like and what each other's expectations are. Find out what Mercedes expectation is for me and what my expectation is for Mercedes.
"These are discussions that are very productive and good but they drag on for a while because it is a large management and corporation and I need to find out for myself what is good for my family and myself."
