Perez set to return for Racing Point after finishing Covid quarantine

Sergio Perez has concluded his quarantine period and is undergoing a further Covid-19 test to determine whether he can take part in this weekend's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Confusion surrounded whether Perez had to quarantine for seven or 10 days after an inconclusive test last Wednesday was followed by a positive result on Thursday.

That forced the Mexican out of the British Grand Prix, and leading to Nico Hülkenberg making a return after nine months out of F1 following his release by Renault at the end of last season.

Public Health England has now determined the quarantine period to be seven days, and providing Perez does not test positive again, he will be back in the RP20 for the second race at Silverstone.

A Racing Point statement read: "Public Health England have confirmed that Sergio Perez' speriod of quarantine has been completed.

"In line with the FIA Code of Conduct, Sergio requires a verified negative test result for Covid-19 before he can enter the paddock. The testing process is taking place today.

"The team expects to make a decision on who is driving alongside Lance later today or first thing tomorrow morning."
