Verstappen and Norris form virtual Le Mans 'dream team'

Formula 1 drivers Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are to join forces and compete in the Virtual Le Mans 24 Hours in June.

Red Bull star Verstappen and McLaren's Norris will team up with sim racers Atze Kerkhof and Greger Huttu for Team Redline in the LMP2 class for the event that takes place on June 13-14, driving an ORECA 07.

That date was set to host the on-track Le Mans 24 Hours at the Le Sarthe circuit, but this has been postponed until September due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

During the lockdown, Verstappen and Norris have regularly competed in esports events. Norris has taken part in the Virtual F1 Grand Prix series, as well as IndyCar and Australian Supercars, while Verstappen has been involved in numerous series, notably the Porsche Supercup of late.

The duo will attempt to follow up their 24-Hour success from Spa last year, taking victory in an Audi R8 LMS GT3 for a joint Team Redline/Pure Racing Team entry alongside Max Benecke and Max Wenig.

Verstappen and Norris are due to be joined by a host of other real-world drivers that includes the likes of Felipe Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella, with additional names due to be announced in the coming days.

Competition rules dictate that each entry must include at least two professional drivers holding FIA international licenses. No more than two sim racers are allowed in each team.

Additionally, each driver must race for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of seven during the 24 hours.
