Leclerc vows to 'learn from the past mistakes' in 2020

Charles Leclerc says that he will try to learn from past mistakes to improve in 2020 as he embarks on a second season with the Ferrari Formula One team.

Leclerc was already considered as one of the greatest young driving talents when he entered Formula One with Sauber in 2017, hot off the back of back to back GP3 and Formula 2 title successes, but 2019 cemented him as a driver with the potential to become a Formula One world champion.

Taking the fight to teammate Sebastian Vettel across the year, Leclerc became only the second teammate ever to outscore Vettel in a Formula One season - Daniel Ricciardo doing the same at Red Bull in 2014.

The 2019 season was not without error though, a qualifying crash in Azerbaijan and the unfortunate coming together with Vettel in Brazil being the first two instances to come to mind, and the 22-year-old Monegasque is keen to learn from his errors.

"I've prepared physically in the mountains to be fit, and psychologically my approach is very similar to the past season," said Leclerc. "I try and give my best. We work hard with the team in order to develop the best possible car and I tried to learn from the past mistakes.

"I want to be a better driver this year."

Asked if his approach to entering a second year with the team would be any different to his first, Leclerc added, "The approach is a little bit different, just because now I know the team, I know more or less the car.

"Obviously, this year it is a new car, but it is still an improvement of last years car, so we have been working together to make it better and to be more ready for this year.

"I know the people, so it's a good season. It's a big challenge and I can't wait to drive the car."
