Hamilton: I could change Ferrari for the better

Lewis Hamilton believes he could improve Ferrari if he were to make a sensational switch from Mercedes, but has played down the chances of it ever happening.

Hamilton has been regularly linked to Maranello throughout his storied F1 career, and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said earlier this year that he would understand if Hamilton did have a desire to make the move.

However, the five-time world champion – on the cusp of securing a sixth crown – says his career-long association with Mercedes, who facilitated his early years at McLaren, means more than the chance to succeed at Ferrari.

Regardless, Hamilton suggested he could bring strong results to the Scuderia, where the fastest car on the grid has struggled to find consistency in 2019.

"For many Ferrari is the last dream of a career. I do not like that," Hamilton told Blick.

"Since I was 13 years old, I have belonged to the Mercedes family. That will hardly change."

Asked if he would consider a Ferrari switch in 2021, Hamilton said: "Not really. Although I have no doubt that I could also change some things for the better there. But that is not my goal.

"It took six years to make Mercedes a winning team and keep it at the top. Now we have an atmosphere full of love, appreciation, admiration and respect. You do not just give that up."
