Four-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen slammed his Red Bull car as a 'disaster' in a furious post-race radio message at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Red Bull star produced a strong comeback in Sao Paulo, cutting through the field to earn P2 and a podium after starting P21 due to a big grid penalty.

However, while at one stage it looked like he might challenge Lando Norris for the victory, he ended up more than 14 seconds adrift of the McLaren man, and at one stage, teammate Isack Hadjar had to let him through.

Clearly it wasn't an enjoyable day for the Dutchman, who made his feelings on the car very clear to his team after the chequered flag.

Max Verstappen furious at Red Bull after Brazilian GP

“My God, doing 85% of the race with a f****d car," Verstappen told his team over the radio.

"Of course, P2 is nice, but not in this way. I’m sorry, but what a disaster to drive. Unbelievable!

"I've never experienced anything like this in the wet or the dry, really, really bad."

Max Verstappen's Brazilian GP analysis

Once he had stepped out of the car, Verstappen offered a slightly calmer analysis, though he reiterated that it had been a tough race, despite his brilliant comeback.

"It was a challenging race," he explained. "The first few laps were, of course, very important and I overtook a lot of cars. Actually, that first stint was very, very strong.

"Unfortunately, after that, I don't know if we picked up some kind of damage, because the car felt like the complete opposite of what I've felt the whole weekend with some really weird balance. Once I got into P2 I couldn't really make any inroads.

"So we have to understand what went wrong there but, I mean, starting in P21 and being on the podium in second is a very good result."
