Stroll “taking positives” after reviewing Turkey troubles

Lance Stroll is 'taking positives' from his Turkish Grand Prix disappointment where he finished ninth despite leading more laps than any other driver.

The Canadian driver qualified on pole in Instanbul and looked set for victory before tyre troubles, and a second stop, sent him tumbling down the field to ninth.

He was left baffled after the race but having since reviewed the issues with his team he said: “Now we’ve understood why the tyres didn’t perform as expected, I can take the positives from it all.

“Obviously, at first I was frustrated because after the amazing high of taking pole position, we led more laps than anyone else in the race only to not make the podium.

“[But] the first stint, building a lead, showed what’s possible and it’s all useful experience for the next time we’re fighting up near the front of the field.”

Stroll has scored just one point in the last six races since standing on the podium at Monza, retiring from three and missing one through illness.

Bahrain has never been a particularly happy hunting ground for the Canadian, with a brace of 14th place finishes the highlight of his three outings.

He added: “As always, turn one will be the key overtaking spot. The quick-fire changes of direction in turn five and six are exciting and pretty high-speed.

“But the most challenging corner follows not long after in turn nine. It’s really easy to lock-up the front left there and that can really affect your stint and race.”
