F1 teams now allowed 10 additional staff per race
The return of team units in the paddock has led to the increase
The Formula 1 teams will be allowed 10 additional members of staff per race, starting with immediate effect from this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.
The move has been confirmed in the latest update to the FIA's sporting regulations and as the sport eases slightly the restrictions that have been in place since the start of the season to help combat Covid-19.
For the opening six races, the 10 teams have been restricted to 80 personnel and been forced to use temporary facilities for their staff provided by the circuits, while catering has been from a central source.
From Spa onwards, the teams are again allowed to have in place their own units in the paddock within which they can provide in-house catering, resulting in an increase in staff numbers.
An amendment to article 21.6c of the sporting regulations notes that: "From the start of a Closed Event until the declaration of the official classification of the race, no competitor may have more than a total of 80 90 team personnel within the confines of the circuit."
No change has been made to the number of 60 team personnel "who are within the confines of the circuit [and] may be associated in any way with the operation of the cars.
"For the avoidance of doubt staff whose duties are solely connected with hospitality, team motorhomes, sponsors, marketing, public relations, security or driving trucks to or from the Event are not considered operational personnel."
