Albon: Wins are 'always the goal'
Alex Albon is hoping a full winter with Red Bull will ensure he lands his target of a maiden Formula One victory this season.
Albon enjoyed a successful debut campaign in 2019, securing promotion to Red Bull for the final nine races following a sterling start over the first 13 grands prix with Toro Rosso.
With the 23-year-old's best finish last year a fourth in the Japanese Grand Prix, Albon is looking to make the jump on to the podium this term, and ultimately on to its top step.
Asked as to his goal this season, and whether that was to win races, Albon replied: "That's always the goal.
"But saying that it's very much a personal thing. For me, it's working on myself. I felt like I was improving each time I got into the car (last year), and this year it's evolving that.
"It's not setting expectations or targets as such, but just focusing on each time I go in the car and improving lap by lap, getting the most out of it."
Following a strong end to 2019 both for the team and from a personal level, he is naturally aiming to build going forward, believing the last few months will have helped.
"It's one of the first years where there has been predictability," added Albon.
"Just having that winter with the team has been really important because although it's my second year with the team, we've only been together for six or seven months.
"There is still that learning going on, but it's been going really well. The focus is on this year and developing the car from last year.
"Last year we ended strongly, the car was just getting better and better. This year we're working on that and working on myself as well, improving on the places where I need to improve."
Albon will get his first taste of the RB16 on the second day of the first pre-season test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on Thursday.
