Ferrari, Mercedes failures give Brazil GP amazing - but depressing - statistic
The Brazilian Grand Prix saw a first of the V6 Hybrid era chalked up as Mercedes and Ferrari both failed to put a car on the podium for the first time since the start of the 2014 season.
Not since the 2013 United States Grand Prix has the rostrum been devoid of silver and red, on that occasion it was Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber and Romain Grosjean, driving for Lotus, in the top three.
Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly came home first and second at Interlagos for Red Bull and Toro Rosso respectively, with Lewis Hamilton finishing third on the track.
However, the world champion had caused a collision with Alexander Albon late in the race, denying the Thai driver a maiden podium as he dropped to P15.
Hamilton was given a five-second penalty, dropping him to seventh, with Carlos Sainz the next man in the classification.
Mercedes' domination, particularly has frustrated fans in the V6 Hybrid era, but recent signs have suggested that their dominance is under some threat, despite 2019 delivering a sixth straight title double.
