Calderon to attend W Series 2020 test

Formula 2 racer Tatiana Calderon will attend the W Series' 2020 driver selection event in Spain.

A three-day test will be held in Almeria next week, with 14 new drivers looking to secure a spot on the 2020 W Series grid.

The all-female event has split opinion, but its first season seems to have been a success, with champion Jamie Chadwick signing a development deal with F1 team Williams and being selected as a driver for the inaugural Extreme E series.

Alfa Romeo development driver Calderon is in her debut season in Formula 2, having become the first female racer to either compete in F2 or its predecessor GP2.

The Colombian will be on hand among the W Series hopefuls "to share her extensive racing experience and learn more about the international single-seater championship".

W Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir said: "We have been watching Tatiana's career with great interest, and she is clearly one of the most successful female drivers in the world.

"We have seen some brilliant talent emerge during our first W Series season, and so naturally we are really happy to have her support. With her experience she already knows the strengths you need to succeed."

Calderon, who was an ambassador for the series when it launched, added: "I'm excited to meet the other drivers on track, learn more about W Series and give a bit back to the sport that I love, and that has given me so much."
