Verstappen: I am one of the most complete drivers

There's not many like Max...

Max Verstappen insists he is already one of the most complete drivers on the Formula 1 grid, despite being just 21-years-old.

The Dutchman has been in scintillating form so far this season, and is the only driver outwith Mercedes to have claimed victory, which he did at the Austrian and German Grand Prix races this summer.

In the last race in Hungary, we witnessed what could be a glimpse of the future as he was involved in a superb duel with Lewis Hamilton as the duo left all the other competitors in their wake to finish first and second, with the Brit winning on that occasion.

Out of the 20 drivers on the grid, he is joint-fourth youngest along with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, but he reckons the fact he started racing so early at the top level means he has matured at a faster pace.

“I started out quite young, so I think that's pretty normal. Most other drivers started with Formula 1 on their 21st or 22nd,” he told Formule 1.

“If you look at the entire grid, I don't think that many people are more complete, even though they are 29 or 30 years old.

"What do I base that on? Speed, being consistent, how you work with the team: those are the most important things.”

Verstappen may be third in the drivers’ championship at the moment behind Valtteri Bottas, but over the last few races he has closed the gap to the Finn to just seven points, as Formula 1 enjoys its winter break after the opening 12 races.
