F1 Sprint Qualifying Results: Hamilton suffers nightmare as McLaren star dominates at Spa

Lewis Hamilton

Sprint Qualifying at the Belgian Grand Prix is in the books, with Ferrari F1 star Lewis Hamilton suffering a nightmare session at Spa.

2025 has been a challenging season for the seven-time champion and his new team so far, with plenty of ups and downs, and unfortunately, it was the latter on Friday, with Hamilton crashing out in SQ1 ahead of tomorrow's sprint race.

Mercedes duo George Russell and Kimi Antonelli also suffered early exits, both going out in SQ2, before McLaren star Oscar Piastri went on to secure sprint pole, dominating his rivals in a real statement of intent after his own early exit scare.

Piastri will now start Saturday's sprint race at the front, with Red Bull star Max Verstappen alongside him, and championship rival and teammate Lando Norris behind in third.

Charles Leclerc and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top five at Spa, with Carlos Sainz, Ollie Bearman, Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar and Gabriel Bortoleto all finishing inside the top 10.

With that said, you can see the full results from the session below.

How does F1 Sprint Qualifying work?

The sprint qualifying session is split into three finite windows, which provide a dramatic prelude to Saturday's short race.

The bottom five drivers are eliminated at the end of SQ1, with a further five eliminated after SQ2.

Then, SQ3 gives us a shootout between the remaining 10 drivers in the battle for positions at the front of the grid.
