2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson has issued an official statement after it was confirmed he was set for a racing series switch.

The Hendrick Motorsports star is familiar with stepping out of his comfort zone having attempted the NASCAR and Indy 500 'double' for the past two seasons, but this weekend's swap should be a more familiar one.

Hendrick Motorsports confirmed this week that alongside his usual duties in the No. 5 Chevrolet in the Cup Series, Larson will also be racing in the No. 17 Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.

Larson has raced in the Xfinity Series on three occasions so far this season, taking two wins and three finishes inside the top five, two of which came in the No. 17 he will be piloting on Saturday.

With the above announcement made in recent days, with the weekend drawing closer, Larson has now provided comment on his switch in an official Hendrick Motorsports press release.

Previewing his double duty weekend, Larson explained: "[The Xfinity Series] still produces exciting racing, and I love to get in there and race with those younger guys,"

"Hopefully give them a glimpse of what it might take once you get to the Cup Series because a lot of them are very well capable of being Cup Series drivers.

"I look forward to getting back out there again this weekend, thanks to Rick Hendrick and HendrickCars.com - New & Used Car Dealers in Charlotte, Charleston & Across the U.S. for adding this race to the schedule and asking me to be a part of it.

"Indianapolis Motor Speedway is full of prestige and it was cool to win the Brickyard 400 there last year and I would love to have a good run with the Xfinity Series team this weekend and hopefully cap it off with a win on Sunday.”

Larson's overall record in the Xfinity Series stands at 120 races, 17 wins, and 86 top 10s.
