Pocono Raceway continues to issue official updates regarding the adverse weather conditions that have struck ahead of Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race, with the start time now officially delayed.

The Great American Getaway 400 is set to see 160 laps of action at the 2.5-mile tri-oval this afternoon. However, rain, thunderstorms, and lightning have all hit the track.

At 11:19 am ET, Pocono Raceway wrote on social media: "There is a continued threat of a thunderstorm, including lightning, for this area. Please remain sheltered.

"Fan Stage and Victory Lane Stage Q&A Sessions are canceled."

Just over one hour after the above update, Pocono have released a further statement on the adverse weather conditions.

The track has confirmed that things are currently in a holding pattern to ensure everybody's safety.

At 12:27 pm ET, they wrote: "Due to the ongoing weather in the area, including lightning, we remain in a holding pattern. Gates remain closed at this time for everyone’s safety. Parking lots are open.

"Please remain sheltered in place in your vehicles until the weather has cleared."

NASCAR start time pending

In the latest update on the matter, Pocono Raceway shared the following update at 1:49 pm ET.

Things appear to be heading in the right direction, although no update on a race start time has yet been provided.

"The lightning hold has been lifted. There is still weather in the area. Please continue to stay weather aware," they wrote.

"Gates and the Paddock area are now open. Pit Road will remain closed to Paddock Pass holders to allow for drying operations.

"We will provide updates as it relates to the start time of The Great American Getaway 400 as they come. Thank you for your understanding and patience."

NASCAR has since confirmed that track-drying efforts are underway.
