Emilia Romagna Grand Prix starting grid with penalties applied

It is a case of as you were on the front row for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as Max Verstappen starts from top spot on the grid ahead of Charles Leclerc following Saturday's sprint race.

Ferrari's title leader had quickly surged ahead of Red Bull's reigning champion at the start of the 100-kilometre, 21-lap event, only for the Dutchman to make a winning move late on as the soft tyres on the F1-75 sustained graining.

Behind them on the second row, another Red Bull-Ferrari battle looms as Sergio Perez starts third ahead of Carlos Sainz as the duo made up three and six places respectively in what was an exciting sprint for those in the top 10.

Further back, however, the race was a disaster for Mercedes as George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were stuck in a DRS train behind Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel.

Russell started and finished 11th, while Hamilton dropped back a place from 13th after being crowded going into the first chicane, and the seven-time champion lines up 14th.

Only one penalty has been applied and that's for Alfa Romeo's Zhou Guanyu who crashed on the opening lap after tangling with AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly.

Zhou was due to be last on the grid but will now start from the pit lane after the team broke parc fermé rules by repairing the damage unsupervised.
