Red Bull take steps to avoid fuel vacuum repeat

Red Bull is confident there will be no repeat of the issues that wrecked its season-opening race in Bahrain.

Reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen was on course for second place behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc when he was forced into retirement.

The Dutchman's exit promoted team-mate Sergio Perez onto the podium but the Mexican also suffered the same fate, forcing him into a spin at turn one on the final lap.

A deep dive into the problem discovered a fuel system issue that Red Bull insist has now been corrected going into this weekend's race in Saudi Arabia.

A Red Bull spokesperson said: “Both cars suffered from a lack of fuel pressure last weekend.

"The correct amount of fuel was in both cars, but a vacuum prevented the pumps from drawing fuel and delivering it to the engine.

" We’ve taken the necessary steps to correct this issue and we expect no problems this weekend.”
