Ferrari return to track action ahead of 2022 launch

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are set to return to the track for Ferrari as part of a four-day test at Fiorano this week.

Ferrari finished third in last year's constructors' standings behind only Red Bull and Mercedes after the Scuderia bested McLaren in a season-long duel.

Ahead of the introduction of all-new aerodynamic regulations for the coming season, Ferrari will become the first team to take to the track in 2022, albeit in the SF21 of last year with Sainz, Leclerc and test driver Robert Shwartzman all featuring.

The running will be used to get the drivers and mechanics back "into the swing of a Grand Prix" after the Christmas break with a record-breaking 23 race calendar looming on the horizon.

Shwartzman will bookend the running, lapping on Tuesday and Friday, with Leclerc returning to the cockpit on Wednesday and Sainz on Thursday.

Ferrari will lift the covers off its 2022 car, which goes by project code number 674, on Thursday 17th February ahead of pre-season testing which begins in Spain on February 23.

The Scuderia has confirmed the running not to be a "surprise debut" for its new car.
