Gasly looking to kick on from 'best season' in F1

AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly believes his "incredible" season was his best in F1 and is hoping to continue his strong form into 2022's regulation change.

French driver Gasly was team-mate to Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2019 but saw his trajectory up the F1 ladder collapse when he was demoted back to the junior team after just 12 races.

But since then Gasly has thrived and, after a surprise win in Italy in 2020, the past season at AlphaTauri has seen him become a consistent scorer with 15 points finishes including a podium in Azerbaijan.

Gasly's was also eye-catching in qualifying with his performances often landing him a top six grid position for the grands prix.

Asked if it was his best season ever he said: “Objectively, yes. I think I have scored the most points in a year compared to my first three seasons and I just feel I have grown a bit more.

“I have been more consistent, faster and working better with the team. Working with them for a second year in a row is clearly helping, so I think it has been my best year.

“With experience, you just get better in the sport, so really next year is going to be another step forward. There is always room for improvement everywhere but this year has been pretty incredible.”
