Raikkonen set for pit start after Alfa Romeo wing change

Kimi Raikkonen will start the São Paulo Grand Prix from the pit lane after changing his rear wing.

From the moment cars rolled out of the garage for qualifying on Friday, they entered into parc fermé conditions meaning only the front wing angle and a handful of other minor changes can be made.

Following the sprint on Saturday, however, Alfa Romeo has changed the rear wing to a different specification part as well as altering some of the suspension settings on Raikkonen's car and the Finn has been duly penalised with a pit lane start.

The FIA technical delegate's report read: "The part has been replaced with the approval of the FIA technical delegate following a written request from the team concerned, this being in accordance with Article 34.2 of the 2021 Formula One Sporting Regulations.

"But as the above part is different from the one originally used and also changes have been made to the set-up of the suspension (with the approval of the FIA technical delegate following a written request), car number 07 should now be required to start from the pit lane according to Article 34.8b of the 2021 Formula One Sporting Regulations."

After tangling with team-mate Antonio Giovinazzi in the sprint, Raikkonen had been set to start from P18, ahead of only the Haas two Haas drivers.
