Ricciardo and McLaren back 10-year-old victim of bullying

Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren have earned widespread praise on social media after standing up for a 10-year-old fan that was a victim of bullying.

On Saturday, McLaren and its drivers were tagged in a tweet from a parent that detailed an incident of bullying that involved her son. The tweet also included an image of the child in question and showed injuries to his face.

"Can I just take a moment to say BULLYING IS NOT OK," read the tweet. "My 10-year-old son is at breaking point due to bullying.

"They stole and stamped on his McLaren hat - one of his favourite things and left him looking like this."

The tweet was accompanied by the hashtags #StopBullying and #BeKind.

McLaren and Ricciardo both responded to the message, issuing their support and promising to 'sort out' the victim with "a new hat and other goodies".

Both parties have been widely praised for their responses on social media with various anti-bullying messages shared in the growing threads.

How McLaren and Ricciardo responded

Ricciardo's helmet this year features the slogan, "All good, all ways", something the Australian says represents an acceptance of all people in all walks of life.

Responding to the tweet, he wrote: "Sorry to hear this, but don't stress buddy. Makes you look tough!

"Bullies are the weak ones, don't forget that.

"I'll sort you out with a new hat and some other goodies. Stay up lil homie."

Thanking its fans for the messages of support, McLaren added: "To all the kind and wonderful fans out there who have supported this strong young man, we just want to let you know that together with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo we’ve got him covered.

"Bullying is a scourge and we stand with you all against it."
