McLaren confirm Norris self isolating after positive Covid test

McLaren confirm Norris self isolating after positive Covid test

McLaren driver Lando Norris has tested positive for Covid-19, the team has confirmed.

Norris is the fourth driver to contract the virus after Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll and Lewis Hamilton, although is the first to be affected since the 2020 season came to a close.

The Briton - who is on holiday in the United Arab Emirates - was tested after developing symptoms of the virus.

“McLaren can confirm that Lando Norris tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday in Dubai, where he is currently on holiday ahead of a planned training camp," read a statement released by the team.

"After recognising a loss of taste and smell, he was tested immediately and informed the team.

"In line with local regulations, he is now self-isolating for 14 days. He is currently feeling well and reports no other symptoms."

With pre-season testing not taking place until early March, it is unlikely Norris’ time in the new car will be affected.

In his own tweet, Norris added: "Yesterday I lost my sense of smell so immediately self-isolated and took a test.

"It's come back as positive, so I've told everyone that I've been in contact with and will be self-isolating for the next 14 days.

"I feel alright and have no other symptoms but I just wanted to let you all know."
