Giovinazzi endured radio silence throughout "disaster" race in Portugal
Antonio Giovinazzi has revealed he was without radio communication with Alfa Romeo throughout the entire Portuguese Grand Prix.
Around a difficult track such as the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Giovinazzi's struggles were intensified due to him being unable to speak with the team.
The Italian was also placed on an offsetting strategy to team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and could only finish 15th compared to the Finn who just missed out on a point with 11th, but still emerged a hero with his astonishing first-lap performance.
Reflecting on his race, Giovinazzi said: "Tricky conditions, we were not on the right strategy as well, plus I had no radio from lap one, so just a disaster I would say.
"I had no communication with the team and in the end, it was just a matter of making it to the flag, which we did, but we knew this track would be difficult for us."
Giovinazzi is now looking forward to returning to home soil when Formula 1 pitches up in Imola this weekend, returning to the circuit for the first time since 2006.
"Hopefully we can have a better weekend in Imola," added Giovinazzi. "I think the potential is there and the track should suit us a little better."
It is expected Alfa Romeo will confirm Giovinazzi and Raikkonen as its line up for 2021 at some point across the weekend.
