Leclerc regrets Singapore radio rants

Charles Leclerc says his radio messages to Ferrari after losing the lead of the Singapore Grand Prix were over the top, and has vowed to calm his communications in the future.

Leclerc took a surprise pole position for Ferrari and led the opening stages of the race, but saw team-mate Sebastian Vettel undercut him at the pit-stop phase and ultimately go on to take victory.

Ferrari conceded post-race that the move had bene unintentional, but Leclerc was unimpressed from the cockpit, making his feelings known across three late-race safety car periods.

The 21-year-old said he would seek an explanation from the team after the race, and having had a chance to talk it through between the race in Singapore and the Russian Grand Prix weekend, Leclerc told reporters in Sochi that he was happy to accept the team's actions.

He said: "I believe that my reaction was well over what it should be, and that shows that I've still got a lot to learn. In this situation, there was absolutely no need to be like this.

"The team has done the right thing. We finished first and second. We wouldn't have finished first and second with another strategy, and that's what matters the most.

"I've definitely got a lot to learn and a lot to improve so that won't happen again in the future.

"In the car, it's always very difficult. There is a lot of adrenaline.

"I wake up in the morning thinking about victory, I go to sleep thinking about victory, so sometimes it might be hard.

"I just need to control myself more in these situations, and - how can I say it politely… just shut up!"
