Ferrari are a young team compared to Mercedes, says Binotto

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto believes that the Scuderia need to be viewed as a “young” team compared to Mercedes, as the Silver Arrows have had an established hierarchy with everyone knowing their roles and duties for much longer in F1.

The Italian outfit are the oldest and most successful team in the history of the sport, having competed since the first F1 season in 1950 and won a record 16 constructors’ championships, but success has been hard to come by in more recent years as they haven’t won that title for over a decade.

Binotto reckons that, due to Ferrari making constant changes behind the scenes, with himself only recently replacing former team principal Mattia Binotto, that they should be viewed as perhaps a more rookie outfit compared to Mercedes.

"They are a very stable team," the Italian said of Mercedes, to Sky Sports.

"That's now many years that they have got people in the right role or the same role, whereas at Ferrari we reshuffled and are a young team in that respect.

"A lot of us are really new in the role, we are not too young, but we are new in our roles."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has been with the team for six seasons now, and has oversaw five straight constructors’ championship wins since.

In the 2019 season, the Silver Arrows have officially won every race so far whether it be through Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas.
