Horner: It's an exciting time for Formula 1

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes Formula 1 is currently enjoying an “exciting” time due to the number of younger drivers who are beginning to make an impact in the sport, such as Charles Leclerc and his own duo of Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly.

That trio have been joined this season by other young drivers like George Russell, Lando Norris, and Alex Albon, meaning that the 2019 grid has a more youthful feel than ever.

Horner thinks F1 fans have a reason to be expectant of a bright future for the sport.

"It's exciting times for Formula 1 to have the likes of Max, the emerging talent of Charles Leclerc, and hopefully we'll see Pierre Gasly join that group as well,” he told Sky Sports.

"It's an exciting time that there's another generation that is coming to the forefront."

Turning his attention to Red Bull’s Verstappen, Horner praises the efforts of the Dutchman, and thinks that, at just 21-years-old, his best years are still ahead of him.

"He's done a remarkable job.” The Red Bull boss added.

“During the course of last year, he really selected another gear and pretty much since Montreal onwards.

"He's very much at the top of his game and enjoying the position he's in. He's driven three very strong grands prix this year.

"It's about points accumulation at this stage. It's still not that big a gap to the guys ahead, he's still third ahead of both Ferrari drivers in the championship at the moment, and there's a still long, long way to go.

"So it's important you don't give away too much ground at this stage of the year. The exciting thing about him is that he will only develop and get better from here.”
