Monger targets spot in F1 feeder series
Billy Monger is targeting a spot on the Formula 1 tour in 2019 with a drive in the FIA's newly formed Formula 3 after completing a Halo extraction test over the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend. Monger still needs to secure sponsorship if he is to get a drive in the F1 feeder series.
Monger has completed a remarkable return to racing since both his legs were partially amputated following a horrific crash in a British Formula 4 race at Donington Park in April 2017.
The British teenager raced in British F3 last year, securing a podium on his first race back at Oulton Park and finishing sixth in the championship.
Monger's determination to make it back to the track forced a change in FIA regulations which stated disabled drivers could not participate in single-seater racing.
Drivers must be able to escape through a car's Halo in less than eight seconds to pass the FIA's test, which Monger had no issues with – the 2019 F3 car will carry the safety device featured this year in F1 and F2.

F3 will merge GP3 and European Formula 3 next year – Anthoine Hubert and Mick Schumacher were triumphant in the respective series this year.
And Monger has set his sights on the new category, which will support F1 action next year.
"It would be a great step for me to make," Monger told Autosport. "That's plan A, that's what we're aiming for.
"It offers a lot, being on the F1 package obviously helps but also it's a new series - which I think will help me.
"I think with it being a new car and a new championship it will be a more even playing field. That's what I want."
