Perez sees Red Bull "potential" after Silverstone test

Sergio Perez has said he can see the potential of Red Bull after completing a day of running in the 2019 RB15.

Perez joined Red Bull from Racing Point - now Aston Martin - in the off-season and has quickly made himself at home within the team.

After Red Bull launched its 2021 challenger, the RB16B, on Tuesday morning, Perez pulled out of the Silverstone garages in the 2019 car.

“It’s been amazing," said the Mexican. "To look at my name on the car is something very special. It’s definitely a dream come true.

"We’ve already done a lot of work in the simulator working on the controls and I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made in terms of feeling more comfortable in the car."

Reflecting on the differences between the machinery he had grown accustomed to over his seven-year stay with his former team, he added: "Everything about the car is different.

"It’s still an F1 car in the end but the seating position is different, the steering wheel, the brakes, the buttons, procedures, the engine and the power delivery, the torque, so many things are different.

"But I can see there is so much potential with this team.”

Perez will once again take to the track on Wednesday, although this time in the RB16B. The Mexican will split the track time with team-mate Max Verstappen as the team prepares for the three-day pre-season test in Bahrain ahead of the opening race of the year at the same venue.
