Norris making McLaren "proud" over mental health awareness push

McLaren has declared itself "proud" of driver Lando Norris' continued push for mental health awareness.

Norris partnered with mental health charity Mind last year, with the logo adorned on his helmet, and which led to the Briton opening up on his own experiences through social media.

It has led to CEO Zak Brown applauding Norris for his efforts in helping to break down the stigma surrounding the topic.

“I think it’s great to have someone who spotlights issues and agendas," said Brown. "It is done in a very authentic way and I think it’s very important.

“I think Lando has been a breath of fresh air for the sport and he is enjoyable to watch. He is actually a very shy person, but that doesn’t come through in his social media.

"He is just very authentic. I think he is just very comfortable in that environment and we’re proud that he is so comfortable bringing that issue forward in such a positive way.”

Norris has become one of the most popular drivers in the sport through his social media dealings and the relationship formed with former team-mate Carlos Sainz.

Brown is expecting for his personality to remain the same in the future, dismissing any thought that Norris' antics are an act for the camera.

“I was talking to someone about Lando, because they only know him through social media, and they asked ‘Is that what he really is like with Carlos [Sainz]?’ recalled Brown.

“What you see is what you get with both of our drivers. That is one of the reasons why Lando has been so popular - everything that you see, that is him.

"He takes it upon himself. It’s genuine, it’s authentic."
