Hamilton itching for Abu Dhabi return after "one of the hardest weeks"
Lewis Hamilton has returned to training after one of his "hardest weeks" and with his sights now set on a return for the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Hamilton is coming towards the end of his self-isolation period after testing positive for Covid-19 last week following his victory in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
That resulted in Mercedes filling the void for the Sakhir GP by drafting in George Russell from Williams, leading to the 22-year-old producing a stellar performance across the weekend, only to be denied a maiden race win by a pit-stop error and a puncture.
It remains to be seen whether Hamilton will pass the more stringent Covid protocols required to enter the UAE, but he has confirmed he is at least on the mend.
Via a short video in his social media channels, Hamilton said: “Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. I know I've not been in touch this past week but it's definitely been one of the hardest weeks that I have had for some time.
“I’ve just been focusing on recovering and trying to get back in shape so I can get back in the car and race the final race in Abu Dhabi.
“I woke up today feeling great, and got my first workout in, so I just wanted to send you guys a message of positivity to let you know I’m okay, and thank everyone for sending me the amazing messages and videos. I really, really appreciate it.
“I hope that wherever you are you’re staying positive and fighting through whatever it is that you’re facing. I hope I can get back in the car soon. I'm sending you guys love.”
Hamilton can afford to skip Friday practice and arrive in Abu Dhabi on Saturday ahead of qualifying should circumstances dictate.
Love and appreciate you all🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/Y4qs5sYlYg
