Schumacher joins Carlin for remainder of Formula 3 season
David Schumacher has joined Carlin's Formula 3 outfit for the remainder of this season.
The 18-year-old had started the campaign with Charouz Racing System, only to endure a difficult opening six rounds from which he failed to score a point.
The son of six-time grand prix winner Ralf Schumacher and nephew of seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher will now jump ship for the final three rounds at Spa, Monza and Mugello.
“I haven’t quite had the season I hoped for so far,” conceded Schumacher, whose best result so far was a 12th-place finish in the feature race of the second of the Austrian rounds.
"I want to thank the Charouz team for all their efforts over the last few months and wish them all the best for the future. I look forward to this new challenge now with Carlin and will be pushing hard to end the season with some strong results."
Teaming up with Clément Novalak and Cameron Das, Schumacher's new team currently sits eighth of the 10 teams in the F3 standings, with Charouz last.
Schumacher, who has replaced Leonardo Pulcini after the Italian's one-off showing at the last round in Spain, is the sixth driver to race for Carlin this season.
"He has shown plenty of potential and we look forward to working with him for the remainder of the season," said Carlin founder and team principal Trevor Carlin.
"We don’t have much time to prepare together for Spa but the team are working hard to make sure we’re in good shape for the start of the weekend.”
