Verstappen: Red Bull won't win again in 2019

Max Verstappen doesn’t believe Red Bull will win another race in the 2019 Formula 1 season as Mercedes and especially Ferrari have been too strong recently.

Red Bull have two victories to their name this campaign, both via Verstappen in Austria and Germany, but they came before the summer break, with form having taken a dip since the sport returned in Belgium.

There are four races remaining in Mexico, the United States, Brazil, and Abu Dhabi, and Verstappen thinks podium spots are the best the team can achieve.

"I don't think there's one track left this season where we can do a particularly good job,” he admitted at a recent Tag Heuer promotional event.

"If we can just finish close to the podium or on the podium every weekend, then I think that's the maximum for us at the moment."

The Dutchman has actually won the last two races in Mexico in 2018 and 2017, but he thinks Red Bull’s current performance is so underwhelming that he can’t be considered as one of the favourites.

"You have to be realistic. Of course, we've been doing very well there in the past two years," he explained.

"But I think this season so far we've had it a bit more difficult, also in terms of the balance of the car.

"So I don't expect us to repeat that right away, especially when looking at Ferrari - who are going really fast on the straights this year.

"So I think if we can fight for the podium this time around, we've done a good job."

Red Bull have already surrendered the constructors’ championship to Mercedes which was won at the last race in Japan, but were some way off both the Silver Arrows and Ferrari in the 2019 rankings anyway.
