Hamilton says in cryptic social media post he is 'giving up'

Lewis Hamilton has posted a cryptic social media message on his Instagram, saying he is ready to “give up" on the world.

The Brit is coming off a relatively disappointing Japanese Grand Prix in which he finished third, but there is no evidence to suggest his message to his followers is anything to do with Formula 1.

Shortly before posting the Instagram story he previously sent out posts relating to environmentalism and veganism - two causes which he has became increasingly vocal about.

The message came the same morning as the Metropolitan Police issued a citywide ban on the Extinction Rebellion in London, with environmental protesters potentially now subjected to criminal charges.

Hamilton previously told the BBC:

"I stopped eating red meat two years ago. I have generally been pescatarian for the majority of the year and now I've cut fish.

"As the human race, what we are doing to the world... the pollution [in terms of emissions of global-warming gases] coming from the amount of cows that are being produced is incredible.

"They say it is more than what we produce with our flights and our cars, which is kind of crazy to think. The cruelty is horrible and I don't necessarily want to support that and I want to live a healthier life."
