Russell says Grosjean deserved to have race ruined after Singapore collision
George Russell said Romain Grosjean was solely to blame for the collision between them that ended his Singapore Grand Prix and stated his belief that the Haas driver deserved punishment over the incident.
The stewards did not see fit to hand down any sanction after Russell and Grosjean came together at Turn 8, with the contact turning the Williams into the wall and breaking front suspension.
Russell said over team radio "I shouldn't be surprised" in the immediate aftermath of the incident and was seen in discussion with Grosjean in the interview pen post-race.
Of his confrontation with Grosjean post-race, Russell told reporters: "I just sort of said 'what was that?'.
"He said I left him no room and that he was in the wall before he hit me. I just said that's absolutely not the case because I've had the last hour to be able to watch the video and that wasn't the case.
"On a street track you can't hang around the outside and abuse track limits.
"It's a shame that it just ruined my race and not his too. So that's probably why he doesn't feel like he was not in the wrong. If the exact same incident were to happen again there's nothing I would do different."
Speaking before having seen a replay of the incident, Grosjean suggested that Russell might have had more of an impact than the Williams driver realised.
Grosjean said: "What I think is he had a moment mid-corner with his rear, touched my front and then sent him the other way around. It's a bit unfortunate but as I say there's not much more room I can go to the left."
