The makers of the official Formula 1 video game, Codemasters have confirmed that its latest offering, F1 2019, will be released on June 28, marking a much earlier release into the relevant season than previous iterations of the game.

Soaring popularity of the video game has led to the advent of F1's eSports series, which uses the video game as its platform.

Professional gamers will likely have more time to prepare for the tournament, with a release date ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix now confirmed, as well as first details of new features.

"We are absolutely delighted to be able to release F1 2019 earlier in the Formula 1 season, so that the game can be played and enjoyed at the same time that the real-world championship picture is starting to form," said Paul Jeal, F1 Franchise Director at Codemasters.

"Our close relationship with Formula 1 has played a major part in achieving this key objective for the franchise.

"That in addition to our near two-year development cycle, has allowed us to develop some exciting new features and other firsts for the franchise that we can't wait to share with our community in the coming months."

Codemasters revealed that Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds had both had a hand in designing a 2019-spec car that will be available to use in multiplayer formats.
