NASCAR Cup Series star Chase Elliott has made an emotional reveal ahead of this weekend's race action at Indianapolis.

The Cup Series hits Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) for the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, with the event set to see 160 laps of action around the iconic 2.5-mile oval.

Whilst racing at IMS is no doubt special for any driver, Elliott has revealed that for him, there are also personal reasons that the track in Indianapolis is so special.

“This race has always been important because it was one of the few races that I was old enough to be around that dad had won," Elliott explained in an official Hendrick Motorsports release ahead of the weekend.

Of course, Elliott's father, Bill, was a former NASCAR star himself, competing in over 800 races across a lengthy career that saw him win a championship, two Daytona 500's and 44 Cup Series races.

Chase Elliott reveals added motivation at Indianapolis

The Hendrick Motorsports star continued, explaining: "So I think because of that, it’s always been just a little more special than the rest."

"And certainly, one of the few wins that I was around for. But more than that, it was the only marquee, major if you will, win that I was around for. So, it’s always been really special.

"I always knew how much that race meant to him. And you know because of that, I’ve always had a lot of admiration for the event.

"It’s always been something in my mind that I would love to match and be able to share that moment with the shoe on the other foot. I feel like that would be really, really cool.”

Given the added motivation, it would certainly be cool to see Elliott achieve his long-held ambition at Indianapolis this weekend, and he has as good of a chance as any driver.

Heading into the weekend, the No. 9 driver is on a hot run of form that has seen him finish inside the top six in five of his last six outings, one of which saw him take his first win of the season and lock himself into the playoffs.

Elliott's teammate Kyle Larson won last year's race at the iconic oval, too, so the team certainly knows how to extract pace at the circuit.
