Joey Logano 'p****d off' and 'upset' over NASCAR penalty decision

Three-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano has revealed he is 'p****d off' and 'upset' over a recent penalty decision by NASCAR officials.

During the Chicago Street Race earlier this month, Logano and Ross Chastain came together in a heated post-race row after an incident out on track.

Chastain had been squeezed into the barriers at one stage during a restart after contact from Logano, who had also suffered contact from behind in the incident, and the Trackhouse Racing star sought instant revenge, driving into Logano at the very next corner and spinning the No. 22 around.

Post-race, both drivers had a frank exchange of words after getting out of their cars, with Logano revealing to the media that Chastain had admitted to intentionally wrecking him, calling for NASCAR to punish him as a result.

Earlier this season, Logano's Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric was punished for intentionally wrecking Ty Dillon at COTA, meaning there was precedent. However, when NASCAR's penalty report dropped post-Chicago, there was no such punishment for Chastain.

Joey Logano unhappy with Ross Chastain and NASCAR

Now, speaking ahead of this weekend's race action in Dover, Logano was quizzed on the incident on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Despite a week and a half having passed by, Logano was clearly not over it, expressing his upset with both Chastain and NASCAR on how they handled things post-race.

"So obviously it was intentional, he admitted it was intentional," Logano explained. "Which is obviously very frustrating from my point of view because he 'pulled the gun' on the wrong person.

I mean, that's how I look at it. I was an innocent bystander in the whole thing and I'm the one that gets wiped out.

"I'm obviously very p****d off about it, upset about the way it was handled post-race from his perspective. Upset that NASCAR didn't step in and do anything about it. That's where my honest opinion is at the moment."

Logano admitted he was now focusing on moving forwards, but that incidents like the one in Chicago, and how they are handled, are always on his mind when racing.

"I have to continue to go race though, right?" Logano added. "I have to continue to go out there and try to win.

"But things like that are always going to be on your mind. You're always going to remember it and you keep moving. Like it is what it is.

"Those are choices that were made by every party involved, and now I gotta go out there and do what I have to do to go win the races."
