2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson has revealed one role he will never take up in NASCAR.

The NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series were both in action at Pocono Raceway this weekend, and during Saturday's race in the latter, there was a shock debut.

With regular crew chief Mardy Lindley suspended, Dale Earnhardt Jr made his debut in the role with the No. 88 team this weekend, with the Jr Motorsports co-owner going on to guide his driver, Connor Zilisch, to the victory.

Quizzed on Earnhardt Jr's decision to step in ahead of the race, Larson admitted that whilst he thought it was 'cool', he didn't have the knowledge of a race car to step into such a position, and as such, he would 'never' do it.

"I have no clue, I would never do it as I don't know anything about a race car," the Hendrick Motorsports driver admitted in an interview with Frontstretch.

"I think it's cool to have that added little thing to his resume, so hopefully Connor has a good race, and it'd be pretty awesome if he could somehow win."

Earnhardt Jr steps up

Earnhardt Jr's promotion came due to Lindley being suspended for a loose lug-nut penalty at Nashville, which was deferred to this weekend's race at Pocono.

"Yeah, it sure was [fun]," Earnhardt Jr said following Saturday's race.

"When we have an issue like this with somebody being suspended, and uh, Mardy and everybody, they know what to do. Just a great job, putting us in a position to succeed. And we had a lot of things go our way.

"A lot of good luck. Great strategy. Had a little help from Letarte up here. I wasn’t not gonna have Steve Letarte not get on this pit box after the races we won together in 2014. So, he was a big help.

"But Pat, everybody on this team, just amazing all weekend long. And what a great race car driver. Connor Zilisch is going to be a big deal in this sport for a long time."
