NASCAR legend 'worried' about 23XI as survival verdict given

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has opened up on the possibility of a huge NASCAR Cup Series team losing their drivers.

23XI Racing are facing the prospect of losing their charter status imminently after a recent court ruling, with their attorney admitting that drivers on the team have get-out clauses in case of the team becoming an open entry.

The U.S Court of Appeal ruled last week that NASCAR shouldn't have been forced to issue charters to 23XI and Front Row Motorsports while the two teams were in legal dispute with the sport's ruling body.

Losing charter status, as well as potentially drivers Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace, would be a massive blow to 23XI, but a NASCAR legend has claimed that fans shouldn't be too worried...in certain circumstances.

Earnhardt Jr.: Not worried about 23XI

Speaking on the Dale Jr Download this week, he said: “They're more than likely not going to be threatened to miss any races because there'll be so many open cars there [that] they might get outqualified.

“I’m not worried about that. I’m more worried, I think that the financial burden that this places on the team.

“They have a budget at the start of the year, anticipating that money that the charter brings in, that’s why they wanted to race as a charter team, they need that money, right?

“And so while they will be able to survive it, it’s going to be difficult financially and they’re taking that risk, right? They’re going to take that financial risk because they believe in their case.”
