Ferrari dismiss floor TD hurt rumour

Mattia Binotto has insisted the lack of pace shown by Ferrari since the summer break is unconnected to the technical directive aimed at floors.

The FIA introduced the TD at the Belgian Grand Prix to help combat the effects of aerodynamic porpoising, which plagued teams in the early parts of the season and led to health concerns for drivers.

Floor-edge flexing and skid-block regulations were targeted by the directive, with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff labelling potential exploitation by the team's rivals as a 'shocker'.

Whilst Red Bull has strengthened its position in the championship with three dominant displays across the recent triple-header, Ferrari has slumped into a fight with the Silver Arrows, leading to questions as to whether the TD had adversely affected the F1-75.

But dismissing suggestions the team had exploited the regulations pre-summer and therefore was not an explanation for its sudden lack of relative pace, Binotto said: "No, it has nothing to do [with it], honestly.

"I know there have been a lot of rumours on that but that is not the point.

"As I said in Hungary [pre-summer break], we are not quick enough and maybe we need to simply review the packages we introduced or the way we are balancing our car.

"The potential of the car could be higher."
